Advantages of Using a Bill of Sale Template
When high value goods such as a car for instance, are sold, a bill of sale is signed between the buyer and seller and notarized, making it a legally tenable document before any judicial authority. While creating a bill of sale template, care should be taken to include only those items that are relevant to the bill of sale and extraneous information should not figure in the template.
As an individual, if you are attempting to create the bill of sale template for the first time ever, the task could be challenging. Even when you are adventurous enough to give it a good try, you could be better off downloading a template from one of the several websites that offer free downloadable forms and templates for various end uses. Some people may even choose to create one from the scratch itself, using the downloaded template as a sample.
The bill of sale primarily deals with the conveyance (transfer) of valuable property such as a home or a car and is a legal requirement in most states across the nation, for the purposes of taxation. The bill of sale, when raised should therefore be registered and notarized to be legally tenable. In some situations, parties entering into an agreement for services can also raise a bill of sale setting out the details of the services agreed to be rendered by the service provider and used by the service buyer. Notice however that the bill of sale template is not common across all contexts.
The minimum content for a bill of sale template are the name, address, contact information, SSN or other personal identification number, a detailed description of the goods under sale, the effective date of the transaction, value of the transaction and warranty/guarantee, if any. Depending on individual circumstances, more information can be added into the template. A provision must be made to include the “terms and conditions” of sale since this would be vital particularly while dealing with a house property. However, when the bill of sale relate to services or properties of lesser value the ‘terms and conditions’ can be left blank if the parties to the contract agree to do so.
Allotting blank spaces/fields in the bill of sale template is a great idea because this will facilitate easy inclusion of additional information based on individual circumstances. Notice that in some instances the purchase may be made on behalf of someone else or the consideration (value) set out may be in exchange of another valuable property etc. These details are critical to the bill of sale and must figure prominently in the document. The document is finally signed by both parties in the presence of a notary and delivered. Copies of the document are provided to all parties to the contract.
